The Facts

I've had a few links at the bottom of the site for a while, under the heading "Just the Facts" for help in finding the real story. At least that's the idea. I put them there, like the Guiness Book of World Records, to settle bar room arguments. There are, admittedly, times I get so wrapped up in my own ideology that I forget to use the links myself.

I rely on my own damaged thinking and preferences to guide me. Like when Michelle Malkin, Hannity, Keith Olbermann, almost any wing-nut, liberal or conservative, and most recently Glenn Beck says anything, I immediately scream "Shenanigans" and some times I prove it. Sometimes I don't and I have to admit to the same irresponsible ranting that I accuse these whack jobs of.

For example in a recent short article, Glenn Beck: Squealing Bitch, I said, "We have the worst health care of any developed nation." Which wasn't necessarily true and I got some flak in the comments for it. What I should have said was:

America has the best health care, medical facilities, and medical professionals of any nation ... unfortunately it is not available to most Americans.

That would have been more responsible and accurate.

This blog post on The Poop comes as a result of an e-mail from Shitheadery Contributing writer The Angry Patriot. He wrote:

I am so confused.

There is a great deal of conflicting information about Health Care Reform. Truthfully, I've sort of given up any concept of informed decision making. However today I found a great site called the Health Care Debate:Reality Check.

It is run by the same group that won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the 2008 elections. I learned some new facts about the program. I also learned I was wrong on a number of details. I like to think I'm open minded enough to change my mind in the face of facts I dislike. I hope you will at least take a look at it.

The pundits, politicians, carpetbaggers, parrots and sophists posturing for ratings and profit while treating me as if I'm too stupid to hear the truth are making me ill. At least the professional politicians are trying - even if I don't agree with all the details.

This site was helpful. Regardless of what side of the debate you are on I hope it helps you too.

It's always nice to get an unintentional wake up from a respected colleague.
